Development of Type 9 Rocket Engine in 8 Years

TY-Space June 15, 2023

The engine is the “heart” of a rocket. At one time, it took at least 10 years to develop and finalize a rocket main power engine. Among the Liquid-propellant rocket currently used in China, there are many products with a development cycle of more than 20 years.

As a large professional research institute specializing in the development of Liquid-propellant rocket and space propulsion systems in China, the Sixth Academy of Aerospace Science and Technology has focused on building a “digital sixth academy” in recent years, integrating intelligence and innovation to tackle key problems, improving the innovation ability of liquid power and the ability of scientific and technological self-reliance, which has provided power guarantee for the smooth implementation of China’s major aerospace projects and strategic emerging industry projects. The President of the Sixth Academy of Astronautics and Astronautics pointed out that, in order to meet the needs of China to build an aerospace power, from 2021, the Sixth Academy of Aerospace Science and Technology will use eight years to develop the Type 9 pumped Liquid-propellant rocket to support the implementation of major space missions such as manned lunar landing, deep space exploration, and reusable transportation systems between the space and Earth.

After decades of accumulation, the research and development model of rocket engines has reached a mature stage of application. Scientific researchers can replace physical experiments with digital methods, optimize multiple rounds of iteration in the virtual world through simulation, and ultimately achieve the transformation from “trial out” to digital full process research and development.

“By the technological breakthroughs represented by accelerating the reusable use of aerospace liquid power, the future space launches to the space will be transformed from an expensive round trip mode to a flight oriented, low-cost mode.”

The research on the reusability of Liquid-propellant rocket not only for lower cost but also for greater capability; Exploring the combined power mode to lay a solid technical foundation for achieving flight based round-trip transportation between the space and Earth. The more the generational development of power technology, the more aerospace industry will achieve great leaps.
